Mikey the Bikey
Mikey was a bikey but didn’t have a bike.
When everyone went out to ride, he would have to hike.
He wore all the leathers cause he wanted to look cool,
But just because you look good doesn’t mean you’re not a fool.
Then one morning he had a thought, one so good he cheered….
What if I checked with all my friends and see if they have some gear?
I know I can build a bike, yes, I think that it would do....
If I can find some parts, look I already have some bamboo!
The house that was closest was Candace the cat.
She was fluffy and proper and wore a pink hat.
After hearing his story, she couldn’t think of anything.
I’m not sure if this will help, but here’s an old ring.
He was thankful for something and at least it was a start.
The next stop was Felix the fox, maybe there he’d find a part.
Sitting on his trusty log, Felix looked up to see ol’ Mike.
“How do you do my long lost friend, I hear you’re building a bike.
Here take these pipes they’ll make it loud, it’s the least that I can do.
The louder the bike, the bigger the crowd, they’ll all want to follow you!
Amanda the Panda was next just down the block,
She greeted him with a big hug before he could even knock.
“Hey Mikey, what are all of those parts that you’re holding in your hand?
If you’re looking for extra stuff I think I’ve got an old rusty fan!”
Mikey gladly accepted and couldn’t help but to began to wonder,
If this bike will really run, I might become one of the “Sons of Thunder”!
With his hands getting full and parts slung over his back,
he ran into Danny the Deer who offered an old sack.
The next stop was big, and he was sure to score,
Just around the corner was his buddy Bruce the boar.
Bruce ran a mechanic shop with an old shed around the back,
It was the perfect place to find old parts and fill the rest of his sack.
“Bruce do you happen to have any random bike things?” Asked Mikey with a wink.
“Mikey, what is mine is yours take these springs and this old sink!”
He found some old wheels and handlebars too,
he wasn’t sure how he’d use it but he even found some glue.
As he thanked Bruce and waved goodbye, he said “I’ll See you later”,
he continued down the gravel road, to visit Vador the gator.
“I’m looking for something that will help me build my ride.”
“What about this surfboard, you can mount it by your side?”
“That’s a cool thought!”, Mikey said to his friend.
You never know, maybe I’ll start a new trend?
He snagged some more parts but it was starting to get dark,
I’ve got one more stop I have to make, next is Shane the Shark!
Shane ran a grocery store, and it was great place to get food,
I’m not sure if they’ll have parts here but let me ask this dude.
He pointed down toward the back and said check aisle three,
whatever you can find down there, you can have it all for free.
Mikey grabbed some tape, fishing string, and finally some screws.
I can’t wait until the morning, on my own bike I’ll finally cruise!
That evening Mikey worked all night from 10:00PM to 4:00.
Until finally he finished and fell asleep on the garage floor.
When the sun started to rise Mikey jumped on his invention,
He couldn’t wait to cruise downtown and get everyone's attention.
He waved and laughed with the biggest smile ever seen,
Mikey really did it, he built his own machine!
When his friend all saw his bike needs, they were quick to assist,
Now Mikey is a bikey, whose kindness will never be missed.

How often do we overlook those around us that are in need? We drive past a homeless man, walk by the hungry, or we would rather not know about the needs of others, because you know what they say, “Ignorance is bliss”. What if the opportunities to bless others weren’t so much for them but rather for us to be blessed ourselves? Our hope through this story is to encourage you to recognize the needs around you and rather than counting the cost of your generosity, be thankful for the opportunity to share what you’ve been given. Because you never know when the tides might be turned.
Blessed to be a blessing!
